March 15 March – Interval Training

As employment nudges its way up to 2.67 million, Nick Clegg and Harriet Harman clash over NHS changes and Cameron admits his shaky grasp of basketball and macroeconomics to Obama, Barnes Runners will be performing its third and final “three times two” interval training session of this spring’s marathon season.
Built to test drive, tenacity and mettle, this Tulloh-sanctioned workout requires that runners maintain their 5K pace over three reps of 2 miles (3.22 km), interspersed with 400 m recovery runs.
As has been the case in previous weeks, this never-very-popular programme will be enjoyed by marathon contenders and recreational runners alike, the aim being to engender feelings of unity and foster a sense of esprit de corps against a background of shared suffering.

Here, then, is what lies ahead:

  1. Jog from Rose House to the track
  2. 1 lap (400 m) of dynamic stretching and bottom kicking
  3. 3.2 km (8 laps) at your 5K pace
  4. 400 m (1 lap) recovery run
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 two times (making a total of three reps)
  6. 4 laps recovery run

The session will conclude with a series of stretches led by an L2 SG.
