Final Cross country match of the season- Sat 7th Feb!!

O.k you lot it is time to pull your socks up, step up and help your team out!
We would like to go out of our first year in the Surrey Cross country league with a bang!

I MUST have a full team for both men and women and would love extra this time around. The men managed a field of 12 last match so I know it can be done.
Lets not make it quite so difficult to organise this time, you know you all love it when you have completed the race so it shouldn’t take bribery etc to get you to show up.

Unfortunately the mens team and the ladies team are not racing at the same location this time.
Below are the details for the ladies match. I don’t have the men’s yet but can tell you it will be held at Lloyd Park Croydon most probably at 2.30pm or 3pm.

Ladies below:-

The final Surrey League match will be held at Farthing Down Coulsdon.

It is the usual SLH start at Farthing Downs.

On the Downs between Downs Road and Ditches Lane about 100m from the bottom gate.

Start time 12pm.

Course:- 8km over two laps of 4km approx.
Course map below

The course is mainly on grass footpaths, which can be muddy. Over the section through the woods there are roots and flints to be aware of on this downhill path. The ascent out of the Valley is over a chalky path which can be slippery. The course crosses Ditches Lane twice, which is manned to stop traffic.

The course route goes south from the start up the hill. It follows the path on a right-hand camber, crossing the road just before the second cattle grid near the car park, then S-SE to the edge of the woods. It cuts down from the “tea-rooms” S-SE on a stony path through Devilsden Woods, baring left at the fork halfway down. As the path emerges from the woods, the route turns sharp left down a grassy slope, and left again at the bottom of the valley onto a path.
After 400m the route turns left off the path to ascend a gully, up through the trees to the gate, and along grassy paths on a right hand camber to the right side of Ditches Lane, until crossing the road 100m before the finish of the lap.
Second lap is a repeat of the first.

Parking: There is parking, some 400m from start, near the Tea rooms on the Downs at the summit of Ditches Lane or the usual public car park at Lion Green Road. Towards the back it is long term parking which is cheaper.

Public Transport
The nearest station is Coulsdon South with four trains and hour from London Bridge and East Croydon. Ten mins walk to start, right form station down the steps and right into Marlpit Lane then right up Ditches lane or for clubhouse follow Brighton road to right into Coulsdon.

The nearest A&E hospital is either East Surrey Hospital in Earlswood [Redhill] RH1 5RH or St Helier Hospital Wrythe Lane Carshalton, Surrey SM5 1AA
There are changing facilities at our clubhouse where there will also be refreshments after the race.

Please let me know asap if you are not competing otherwise I will presume everyone is :)!CROSS COUNTRY

P.S – Please note this change in the recommended parking.

Parking: It is recommended to park in Lion Green road public carpark
[towards the back it is long term parking which is cheaper], or to park
in the Ullswater Industrial estate first left after the rail and road
bridges on Marlpit lane CR5 2HR which is the shortest distance to the
start The Tea rooms carpark on the Downs at the summit of Ditches Lane is
actually about 1000m from start and does not have a lot of spaces!

Date: Saturday 7th February 2015

Venue: Lloyd Park, Croydon, Coombe Road, CR0 5RA

Travelling to venue: The park is served by the tram stop Lloyd Park which is on the number 3 route. From East Croydon this is the tram labelled New Addington. For those driving to the venue – there is a small car park at the venue but this is expected to fill up quickly. There are however plenty of adjacent roads where there should be parking available and a short walk to the venue. For those situated in the car park, please remember to take a ticket and to park between the bay lines otherwise you will be fined.

Race Times:

Divisions 3 & 4 (5miles, 2 laps) – 2 pm ( BARNES RUNNERS ARE DIV 3/4 )

Division 2 (5 miles, 2 laps) – 3 pm

NB : please make your runners aware of these times – I have already received a few emails where runners clearly did not know about them.

 The course

2.5 mile lap http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1359892

For those that have raced at Lloyd Park previously, the 2.5mile loop used is similar to the one used for the Surrey County Championships in recent times, but starts and finishes further north.

The course is likely to be very muddy in places so is suitable for spikes or studded shoes.

There are no changing facilities available at the venue, so please come ready to run.
